Bed bug liquid treatment

Prep Checklist: What To Do Before We Treat

Bill treats bed bugs in two rounds, the initial treatment and a follow-up visit, and the preparation is the same both times. These steps have to be done before each appointment. Tap each step as you finish it. When all 14 are checked off, you’re ready to book. We will NOT treat any unit that has not met these preparations. Our technician will verify every item on arrival. Liquid treatment runs about half the cost of heat treatment, but Bill will tell you straight: it is nowhere near as effective. Want it done right the first time? Go with heat treatment instead. 1. Step 1Wash all linens, bedding materials, clothing, stuffed animals, and similar items in the highest allowable water temperature, and dry on the hottest allowable heat setting. Best practice: dry, wash, and dry again.
  2. Step 2Place all laundered items in new plastic bags or plastic containers, seal them tightly, and relocate them to the living room.
  3. Step 3Dry-clean anything that cannot be laundered. Leave those items at the cleaners between the initial treatment and the follow-up visit.
  4. Step 4Remove everything from closets, including closet shelves. Launder all clothing as described above. Nothing should remain in the closet.
  5. Step 5Remove all miscellaneous items from dressers, night stands, chests, and similar furniture. Place them in plastic bags or sealed containers in the center of the living room floor. Nothing should remain in the bedroom.
  6. Step 6Vacuum floors, carpets, and area rugs. Use the crack and crevice attachment around baseboards, bed frames, sofas, and other furniture. Discard the vacuum bag or contents after use.
  7. Step 7Keep any luggage used for recent travel empty so it can be inspected and treated if necessary.
  8. Step 8Remove shelves, picture frames, artwork, wall clocks, and decorative items from the walls and place them on the floor in the same room they were hanging in. These must be inspected and treated if necessary.
  9. Step 9Pull all large furniture at least 2 feet away from the baseboards in every room.
  10. Step 10Birds, cats, dogs, and people must stay out of the home during treatment and for at least 4 hours after treatment is complete. Cover or remove fish and reptile tanks, and turn off air filters and filtration systems for aquatic fish during treatment.
  11. Step 11Remove all mattress and box spring covers before our arrival, unless you have an encasement specifically designed to control, prevent, and eliminate bed bugs.
  12. Step 12Remove and discard the box spring backing (the thin, fibrous material stapled to the bottom of the box spring) before treatment.
  13. Step 13Cribs, crib mattresses, and other baby furniture will be inspected and treated as needed.
  14. Step 14Place shoes in new plastic bags or containers, seal tightly, and relocate them to the living room. If shoes can handle a dryer cycle, run them on the hottest setting for 30 minutes first. No shoes should be left in the bedroom or closet.
